Here is my situation:

Few years ago, I was scammed by someone I dated, and being threatened that he will get me deported if I ask for the money back. I was physically and mentally abused and I have evidences but NO actual police reports of physical and mental abuse.

I do have a statement by a police officer describing what happened to me, but he is not the officer on the real investigation so he cannot do the i-918 form for me.

However, this person is being investigated of fraud, and the case has moved from local PD to FBI. I cooperated with all investigations.

So I don't know if the only charge or investigation on this case is fraud, which is a non-violent crime, Can I still apply for U-Visa if I can prove how this person has made me suffered?

There's a lawyer I talked to said if he used deportation to threaten not to pay me, then it's extortion but I know the FBI won't check that charge on the I-918 because it's not what they are investigating him for.

I appreciate any thought about my case. And if you've been granted of U-Visa, please share your lawyer's info with me? Because it seems most lawyers have never done a U-Visa before. I don't know who's opinion to trust.

Thank you!
