I've never been to the embassy, but I've been in that area. I would advise that you ride the Metro into DC and get off at the Dupont Circle stop (red line I think). Just find a park & ride station to get on at.

Or if you are getting a hotel find one that is close to a Metro station. And make sure you check the price to park at the hotel.

Otherwise parking is going to be on the street (if you can find a spot) or in a paid parking deck.

It's been years since I've accually STOPPED in DC!! lol

And even then it was mostly 14th st he he he

Never rode the Metro but good advice I may try it

Maybe I can get on in Fredricksburg? That'd be GREAT

It doesn't look like the Metro goes all the way to Fredricksburg, VA. It looks like the closet station is the Franconia Springfield station. The parking is $4.75/day. http://www.wmata.com/rail/parking/parking_detail.cfm?station=95

Take the Blue Line train to the Metro Center station and transfer to the Red Line (going northwest towards Shady Grove) and take that to Dupont Circle station. Or getting off at the Farragut West station from the Blue Line is an option too.

I guess you could do Amtrak from Fredricksburg to the Metro, but I've never used them so I can't advise on that.

Also, are you two going to sight see. You will be right there near all the tourist attractions.

From what I'm reading it's an all day process to change name and renew a passport

How do you pay to ride the Metro?

It sounds so confusing

When you enter the metro station there will be kiosks there. You will buy 2 metro cards and load them with trips at the kiosk. It's not hard.

It's been maybe 4 years since I was there, so I can't remember all the details.

Here are some web sites you can look at:

If you are able to you might want to just get a hotel near a metro station so you guys can see the sights for the first day and get use to the metro system, then the next day take care of business at the Embassy. Just a suggestion if you guys want a mini vacation haha. I think that is what we will do when the time comes to report marriage to the Embassy.

You can take the VRE (Virginia Railway Express) from Fredericksburg to Union Station and switch to metro from there. The VRE station is on Lafayette Street downtown. You can also take Amtrak if you want to be guaranteed a seat.

By all means...the Metro is the way to go. Find a station that has parking, if it hasn't changed in the last year it's about $4 and change for all day. Get there early. You can ride Metro all day for like $7. Beats the traffic and parking. Easy to get almost anywhere. Metro fare available in the station with cash or card.
