F1 visa with a Juvenile record

I would like to ask if anyone has this experience 4 half years ago my friend got a criminal record for battery and offences language although they were told they would have a criminal record they got a 4 month referral order, now in the process of going for an interview after getting ACRO report etc ect and he is worried sick. Although most sites say that his crime was in category C and classed as minor and a juvenile does anyone have any tips or advise would really welcome input than you
