Hello everyone, first I would like to say thank you in advance to anyone who may reply.

I am a U.S. citizen by birth, my wife is Canadian. We both currently live together in Canada, and have for the past 12 years. We have been legally married for 2 years.

I am a private contractor, in an industry that deals mainly in cash payments ( not a drug dealer ). At any rate, I am assuming I will not be able to meet the requirements for financial support, due to not being able to show an income, and will need a co-sponsor.

Here's the questions,

1: does money in the bank count, in other words, can I just show a bank statement of over $20,000 and say we're going to live off that till I get a regular job that I can claim?

2. If I get a co-sponsor, do they have to meet the same requirements?

3. If we move back to the states, and I live in a family owned home for the time being, where there would be no rent, can that be taken into consideration and the financial requirements be adjusted?

The financial requirements in your case - self-employed - are based on your tax returns. If your tax returns show you qualify for sponsorship you should be ok, otherwise a co-sponsor will be subject to the same requirements.
