Hello everyone.

Just wanna ask when is the police certificate needed? My husband just received approval of my petition 4 days ago and it says we need to wait for 30 days for the USCIS to forward my petition to NVC. Since I am in my hometown now for vacation ( Philippines is my hometown, I work in Thailand ) I figured it will be better if I get Police certificates while Im here and bring it when I go back to my work in Thailand ( Going back in Thailand on last week of April ). I am not sure when is the police certificate needed. Is it at AOS packet or IV packet???. If so, how long does the certificate expire?

And usually, we have to wait for a month for the case number? I have read that the petitioner is the one who should call the NVC to ask for case number. Is this true? So can he call NVC after a month then or the NVC will just email him the case number? Sorry, we are both clueless.

Thank you so much..

If you're in the Philippines, I suggest you get your NBI clearance right now. I flew in from SG to Manila last June and it only took me 2 hours on a Monday morning. NBI is now very efficient. I took the travel abroad kind so it is the green coloured one. I just check the validity and it is valid for a year. You can order 2 pieces.

Since I work in SG, I had to get a police certificate here, too. But the rules here are different. SG Police has to have a copy of the letter coming from the US Embassy that you need a Certificate of Clearance. It is only when they see the letter from the embassy that they can process my clearance.

All the best!
