I a trying to figure out how to get my two cats to the states. We will be travelling from Curitiba to Miami. I am looking at both options of having the cats on the plane as a carry on and the option of cargo. We will be flying in June. Anyone do this recently? I know the airlines have made some changes in the past year or so.

Any information on your travels will be great!

Thanks in advance.

Hi there, I brought my little dog to the US with me. Since he is a small dog - micro-toy puddle, I had to carry him on the plane. I don't know how it is with cats, as they do tend to stress out very easily. Make sure you have all the paper work done, vaccination records, vet's statements and the lot. I remember I had to go to the agency at the airport in Rio which gave me the list of all the documentation I needed, and once completed I had to go back for the approval stamp. With all the paper work in order, I had no problems boarding the plane, or entering US with my dog. That was back in 2008, so I don't know what have changed. Just search on the internet, I'm sure there are information out there relating to your state that can help you know how to go about this, as well as the requirements of the airline you are using. Oh, and make sure the vet give your cats some sedation, it will help with the trip, and make them comfortable and warm, as it gets very cold, if they have to travel on the cargo. Good luck!

Thanks so much!! I will go to the airport and check what their requirements are. It seems like all of the airlines have different suggestions.

I know its a little late but we brought our cat to Brazil from the U.S. and will be taking her back to the U.S. as soon as my wife gets her IV approved.

You just need an International Health Certificate issued by an accredited vet. This has to be issued within 10 days of travel I believe.

Currently Delta is the only airline that will allow them to fly "in-cabin" with you. Brazil to U.S. ticket price for pet is $75.

I highly advise against giving sedatives. This can be life threatening due to cats nature. I have heard this from many EDUCATED vets.

Ours did just fine on the flight. No problems. Total time spent in carrier was around 13 hours and no "bathroom problems".

I can recommend the best carrier. I spent almost a year before we moved here investigating this and bought what I feel is the best one for the job.
