My mother in law will be joining us in early March. Her petition was approved in El Salvador with out any questions last month. She will be arriving in San Francisco and I am wondering what the process will be for an elderly woman that does not speak English. Does she go to a special line? How about photos and fingerprints for her resident card? Do they use the photos already provided to the NVC and the Embassy? How long will her entry process take?

Best, John

Mother-in-law arrived last night at SFO. There were 3 flights and about 50 new immigrants and she was the last one processed after 3 hours of waiting. A very nice Customs Officer pushed her out in a whellchair to the waiting area to her family members. She has had nothing but praise on how they handled everybody and how nice they were and that they did speak Spanish. Fingerprints and photos were taken. I guess that her social security and green card will arrive soon.

Mother in law got her green card in less than 2 weeks. We are still waiting for her social security card. Happy with the procees with the National Visa Center. They were great!!!! If we were a little slow in getting the paper work in, they always sent a reminder email. Waiting for her social security card so she can get her Calif DMV ID card.

Best,

John

I guess that her social security and green card will arrive soon.

You can take her to SS Administration to apply for SS#, using her I-551 stamp in the her passport as proof of status.

GC will come in the mail, but lots of people wait and SS card never shows. So be proactive and take her in person to apply.

Don't forget to get her State ID after you get SS# and you get the GC.

The application for her social security card was made on her immigration documents. I did call customer service for social security and they were of no help. They do not have access to the SAVE database. Will havel to go in and wait in line.
