Living overseas with active US military spouse

Hi everyone!

I am currently living with my USC husband while we wait for our case to be processed. He is in the National Guard and is about a week away from changing to Army active duty. As yet, we do not know where he will be sent. I am wondering if anyone knows what happens if he is sent overseas to a country such as Germany or Italy (bases that allow for spouses/families). I have applied for AP, but have not yet received it. Is there any special military provision for overseas travel with military spouses or will I have to remain in the US until my AP is approved?

Thanks to all in advance :D

Meisha

I always wondered about this as my fiance is in the USAF. Off the top of my head, I think you should be fine as each Military Base is still considered part of USA. I may be wrong. Perhaps you can consult an immigration lawyer or have your fiance confirm on base?

I forgot to mention, there is a military hotline that you can call. They will be able to help you out I'm sure!

You need to make sure, you are on his orders. If you are on his orders, you don't have to worry about AP. moving with him and staying with him is still considering being in the states. The time also goes forwards your naturalization. So no need to worry, but like I stated above, you NEED to be on his military orders.

Thanks to everyone who has responded so far. The problem has now become another….. Today my hubby signed up and received orders to report to Fort Jackson on Sept 11. I am on his orders but a prerequisite for his orders is that I have a SSN by Sept 11… I am still waiting for my EAD!!! I have seen that some others have received their EADs within a week or two after their biometrics appointment, yet for some it has taken several weeks! My appointment was yesterday but as yet I am still unable to check my case status online!!! Has anyone else been in this situation or know what to do? Would military immigration be able to speed things up for us?

Thanks for all your help in advance!

Meisha

I tried to call the military immigration hotline 5 times last night, each time the call cut out at about 18 minutes. I used two different phones so it was a problem at their end. Getting very stressed! :(
