Hey All,

My mom has lived here for almost 30 years and is a permanent resident. When her green card expired we filed for a new one and had no issues getting a 10 year renewal. During a nexus interview last week they noticed the name on the green card was printed twice. e.g. First Name Last Name, Fist Name Last Name. They did renew her nexus but said she better get it fixed. It's a bit crazy we didn't see this before. So now we are wondering what we should do? Go through the process of correcting the name, or go directly to applying for citizenship? (Since she is going to apply for citizenship anyway). We are pretty sure this is an USCIS error, but not sure if we accidently filed it wrong online. Any ideas on this would be helpful.

Second issue:

The name on the green card has always been her first name and the middle name as her last name since this is the way it was on the foreign passport when she came to USA. She would like to use her real first and last. This compounds the issue even more...

Please help...

Thanks

Sonny

Is your mother over age 55? The reason age makes difference is, if you've been here for 15+ years and over age 55, then they only ask those 100 questions (Civic Test) as part of the interview. They do not ask the applicant to read/write (English test). Basically, this makes the interview easy to pass.

Also, when you apply for citizenship, there is a question on the form where you can say if you like to change name and if so, to what. However, I don't know if you change name, if they ask any evidence or such. For instance, of foreign passport has her name as <First Name, Middle Name>, then what else does she have that shows her full name? Maybe her birth certificate, marriage certificate, etc?

I don't have any experience with name-change so I don't have any good suggestion. Hopefully other VJ members will chip in..
