So on Friday my mom called me telling me that I received a letter on the mail, dated July 23rd; saying that the NVC had recently received my petition and that within a week it would be forwarded to the embassy in Colombia. So what happens now? can I make schedule my interview now? I am a bit confused! please help!

Read the guides...and your letter.

When it gets to the Embassy, they will e-mail your packet of 3-4 of instructions ( I got mine in 24 hours) you can however get the packet now through the link in the Embassy info section http://bogota.usembassy.gov/appt-package.html it has everything you need to know and have ready. It also has link to where you can register and schedule your interview.
