What happens if I have a cosponsor that is willing to notarize the I-134 support form with adequate bank account information but is unwilling to give me a copy of his tax return? I would not care as long as the person was above the poverty line but I am not working at a U.S. embassy. What do you guys think about this?

India, gun buyback and steamroll.

I don't believe that will work... At CDJ, if the consular officer does not look at your financial information and supporting evidence, you will still need to submit the evidence when you are at AOS time. Here is the I-864 application (http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/I-864.pdf) for AOS, and if you go to page 11, he'll need to submit a copy of W2s and tax returns anyway to meet the income requirements.

Also, here is something on VJ about the Affidavit of Support: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...mp;page=support

I hope this helps. I think it would be safest to have a co-sponsor who makes 124% above the poverty line so that you don't have to deal with assets and trying to get a copy of his/her tax returns.

Are you saying that if my co-sponsor is clearly above the 125% line then he doesn't need to give a copy of his tax returns?

Let me say something about all of this co-sponsor stuff. It might help some of you out.

In order to meet the 125% poverty limit, your total amount from income and assets needs to meet the 125% poverty guidelines for the current year.

Although in the packet you receive from Juarez, it does not specifically state to take the I-134 with you to Juarez. Most of us here, on the Juarez thread decided to use this form because it makes it easy to state your income and assets, etc. It is also fairly quick to fill out and I'm sure the CO's

like simple things. When you guys go to Juarez, it is best to take the I-134 notarized with you the (I-864 is used in the AOS stage). You should also take any supporting documentation that proves you (or your cosponsor) really do make that amount of money, or have that amount in the bank with you. Since you do not know what the Consular officer will want from you, I always thought that its best to be prepared for anything. Since tax returns (or tax transcripts) show and prove the amount of money you put on the I-134, I went ahead and sent Juan with tax transcripts.

For the member who says their cosponsor doesn't want to provide them with tax returns. How about tax transcripts??? Tax transcripts are easy to order and are FREE. Also it is only about a page per year for each transcript rather than about 15 pages for tax returns. Also, you can go ahead and cross off social security numbers on the transcripts when you take them to Juarez. This is what we did when we used my father as a cosponsor for Juarez, we blocked off the social sec. numbers from the transcripts. You can also tell your co-sponsor that he/she may give you a copy of their transcripts in a sealed envelope with their social blocked off with a black marker. That way, you won't see their income amount (maybe they don't want to share this info. with you) and your fiance can present the envelope in Juarez if they are asked for them. If not, then you will simply return the envelope to your co-sponsor.

Excellent advice! That's a good idea about putting the tax transcript inside an envelope.

Greatgate - your cosponsor will have to have supporting documenting showing that he is above 125% the poverty line, because they won't just take his word for it. The reason why they want this info is because they want to make sure the beneficiary (your fiancee) won't become a public charge for the first 5 years she is here.

For people that have recently went to Juarez for their visa appointment. Did the consular officer keep the USC's tax copies or just look at them? I am asking because I have 2 separate copies of each years tax return. One is really nice and in a folder and organized really professionally (these are for my personal records) and I was wondering if I should give the consular officer the fancy version of my tax returns or just the regular version.

When my husband went to Juarez (over a year ago), the CO simply looked at the tax transcripts fairly quick. He did not keep them though. I recommend that you order tax transcripts. They are a page long, are much simpler (yet contain the same info. as a copy of every page of your return), and are free to order. All you have to do is look up the form that's needed to order your tax transcripts from the IRS website. Or I think you can even fax them the paper and receive your transcripts faster.

Remember the CO wants to get through your fiance pretty quick, they have many cases to go through. Why not make their job easier by providing them with tax transcripts? When Juan went, I sent him with 3 years of tax transcripts for both myself and my co-sponsor. In total it was like 6 pages worth of tax info. rather than like 50 pages.

Just thought I would let everyone know that I successfully read through all 130 pages of this thread. And I am now at a loss for what to do before I go to bed. So- thanks for everyone who has posted such helpful tips and answers- I tried my best to copy the helpful information so that I wouldn't have to ask the same questions over... but you may have to bear with me as I am assembling the I-129F Petition and questions keep popping into my head. And while I'm trying to get all this together, my fiance has already started becoming nervous for his interview. haha...
