What does this mean?

Last month I emailed the CSC because 5 months was the end of April and still no approval. This is the answer I got:

The required background checks for the subject case remain pending. We will render a decision as soon as the background checks are complete. If you do not receive a decision within 180 days of this inquiry, please contact (email address for follow-up).

If you have any further questions, please call the National Customer Service Center at 1-800-375-5283.

Does anyone know what this means? 180 days is 6 months!!! Should I call? My hubby and I are still hoping he will be here this year.

You are in AP, they can take as long as they like on additional background checks. Your husband's name likely kicked up something on their checks. They need to follow up to make sure.

He is clean. He even got his police record for me while I was there and gave it to me. I am sad to hear this, about them taking as long as they want.

I'm not saying it is your husband himself that has a record. But if he has a common name or a name associated with some type of threat then they need more time. Often men from middle eastern countries are put in AP but it can be anyone.

I have another question. I was reading and noticed some people put on their timeline the word "touched". I assume that is the last date someone picked up their paperwork? So, when I check our case online it has the date November 28, 2011 for "Last updated". How could my hubby be stuck in AP with a NOA1 date of November 21, 2011? Am I not understanding something?

USICS updates are not very good. My husband's K-1 said that it wasn't touched for months after NOA1 even after he was in the US!
