My spouse applied for her new SS card on Monday October 16, 2006 after receiving her Green Card and was told she would receive her card in two weeks. She received one of those letters from the SS office stating it would be mailed within two weeks. Does anyone know the actual time frame it should arrive in the mail? Is there a faster way to just get the number such as over the phone, going to the office etc.. My understanding is that the card is mailed from Baltimore, Maryland.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

If a number was assigned she can go into any SSA office with ID and get the number. Should receive the card with 10 to 14 days. While at the SSA office she can request an SSN Verification Printout, which will give her some proof of her assgned SSN until she receives her card.
