Another related question: If we submitted the I-130s sooner rather than later, once they are processed, can we stall the next leg of the process for a bit or do you have to launch into it right away?

Also, I would like our medicals to be as close to the interview time as possible (because of the 6 months lapsing rule). Are they generally quite close together do you know?

You can delay things quite a lot. I believe a lot of people dont start getting the paperwork ready such as I-864's until they have already got NOA2. Then you can schedule your medical for a good few weeks away. The interview will always be after the medical. Sometimes a couple of weeks, sometimes a couple of months.

This could be a possible time line:

1st September Send in I-130

8th September NOA1

8th December NOA2

1st January LND number received and book medical

10th January Send in DS-230 pt 1

February 15th Medical

February 20th Send in DS-2001 and state medical is already done.

April 10th Interview

Visa valid until 15th August

That was all made up but thats how it could go! Could be quicker but you could delay more than that.

Hey all,

Firstly good luck to everyone who is currently going through or about to start the process! We will be sending ours off at the end of the month which will signify the end of a looooong wait while saving.

We were looking at what was needed for DCF with the I-130 and it seems to be less than we thought, see link below:

Is this true?

Also is it right that they don't like a binder and just want everything in order in an envelope. any advice on this would be grand.

Yes thats true Follow that list EXACTLY and you shouldnt get any RFE's. No they dont like binders but they do like those forms stapled together in the right order. Then just put it in an envelope and wait. There is currently only a 7ish week wait until NOA2 so things are moving fast!

I thought of one more question! My wife will be moving back to America first and so during the application process I will be moving out of this apartment to stay with family, how do I ensure that they know the correct address for correspondence. Or is it simply possible to include instructions on a return address with the package?

I know I can also have my mail forwarded but I don't want to take any chances with something this important.

I am not sure how to edit posts on here so sorry for the double post. I also just noticed the I-130 no matter where I find it states that it expires on the 01/31/2012 and the G-325A states it expires on the 08/31/2012 is it going to be a problem if we submit the forms even if they have these expiry dates?

Just ignore the expiry dates. They are whats available now so they are ok to use.

There will be spaces on forms for the address where you live and the address where you want your mail to go. So you can just write it in there if you already know where youre going to be.

Hi Everybody - my name is Tim and I'm a newcomer to these pages

Thanks for all the information available on this forum. I am a UK citizen and my wife is a US and Irish citizen (which is how we got her into the UK).

We're looking to relocate to the US next June, since I'll be fully retired by then and my wife wants to be closer to her family.

I was wondering when is the best time to start the DCF process for a June move. We can send in an I-130 either at the beginning of September or in mid-October - my wife's going back to the USA between those times.

You could send it any time before your wife goes back. If things move too quickly, you could always delay a bit along the way. Good luck

Which parts are the best to introduce a delay? After the NOA2 is received and before we send back a DS-230? (I think I've got that bit right)

We can send in the I-130 in mid-October since my wife will be coming back then for a while.

It's all complicated by me going on a very long trip abroad (not in the USA) between mid-February and the end of April, so I'm not quite sure when to try and time things for a move in June.

Has your wife been resident in the UK for the last 6 months? Its just that thats one of the requirements to do DCF as im sure you know. Not sure if i just misread but sounds like she isnt in the UK?

For June, i personally would go for about October / November so i think you will be ok for when you planned to do it

Yes, my wife has been here for the last 3 years, so definitely in the time frame. It's just that she want to go back and see friends for a few weeks, catch up on the family, that sort of thing - not seen any of them since Christmas.
