Thanks again everyone. It's nice to see the steps laid out like that.

Here's one possible hang-up that I'd like advice on. The job I'm at now is temporary, ending October 15. I have no doubt, and every plan, of beginning a new job the day after it ends. However, does this complicate my affidavit of support? If her interview is after October 15, I'll be at a new job.

6 weeks apart isn't too bad. It's just dealing with the disappointment of not being permanently together, and I feel a bit guilty with her facing the interview and med exam on her own when I originally thought I could go with her. I just have to trust her to handle it herself, I guess.

Another thought I had was going to visit her during our 6 weeks apart. I'd love to see her family again, and attend the interview with her if possible (or the med exam--maybe I could schedule my flight to coincide with her return flight). Of course, this depends entirely upon my job. My current job would have no problem with me taking as much (unpaid) time off as I want, but I seriously doubt any new job I start October 16 is going to look too kindly upon taking off for 1-3 weeks.

So now that I've sort of accepted the current situation (see the outlined steps above! thanks again for that), I am turning around in my head the whole job thing and affidavit of support complication possibilities. Any thoughts/advice on that?

Also, one thing--is it better for her, when they ask why she's visiting, to say, "I'm visiting my fiancee to meet his family and do touristy stuff!", or is it better for her to say, "I'm visiting friends to do touristy stuff while I take time off from school!"?

I know this has been covered in other threads. She does not have ties in the typical sense. She lives with her mom and will be finishing up school in June and coming here straight away for three months to see me, my family, and do touristy stuff. She doesn't have a job, apartment, rent or anything.

I figured I'd write a letter talking about how she'll be entirely supported the whole time, how I want to introduce her to people and take her around and show her things, and I'd enclose a copy of the NOA1 (and NOA2 if it arrives by then, which I don't think it will). I thought we'd also get her parents to each write a letter saying they expect her back September 25th. She'd also tell them she'd never overstay her visa, because she needs to be able to get back home to see family and can't be trapped in one country or the other.

We realize it's possible she'll be turned away, but we think it's unlikely, and we want to maximize her chances of being let in. We have no intention of doing anything illegal.

Your I-134 has to be true on the date you sign it. If it's nicely over and you have some good proofs of income, the the interviewer person probably won't even discuss it...will just give it a glance. He may (in his chat) say what does your fiancé do? He's a ________ ought to suffice if she says what's basically on the affidavit. it's a chat and she doesn't have to give names and addresses. And she can can also say you recently changed jobs and perhaps have a letter from your new employer verifying your new salary. Figure it out when you know the interview and your employment.

You will be together. It's extremely rare to fail in London unless she's a drug dealer or mentally I'll and dangerous. Save your money and don't worry about going. Again, you can't plan dates in advance. It could be 3 weeks after the medical before she knows the interview date which could be weeks off,,,you don't know how it will play out.

CBP: What is the purpose of your trip?

Fiancé: I'm on holiday.

You answer without telling your whole life story. If they ask for details then answer their questions without sounded scripted.
