All,

I don't think extreme details are needed to understand this situation, and I'm just looking for general guidance/advice.

We submitted our K1 petition and then the visa interview documents showing a total duration in Singapore of 9 months. At the end of the interview, the embassy required us to obtain police clearance from Singapore, and stated that after they receive it (and assuming it's acceptable) they would ask us to mail in the passport so that they can process the visa.

We sent the clearance request along to Singapore police but they stated that they can only do the clearance for 6 months, in accordance with their policy; this is because she was initially in country for 3 months, then she briefly left the country (5 days) then returned for 6 more months.

So, when the police cert is finally received by the embassy, it will only be for the latter part of her stay (last 6 months) and not for the full period.

GS-325a calls for a list of residency for last five years. We reported the full 9 months in Singapore and did not report the trip on this form as it wasn't technically a "residence"...just a trip.

I see our choices as follows:

-do nothing, and let the police cert go through the process, and answer any discrepancy if it arises

-at the time the cert is sent, we send a letter explaining the details in hopes that it would address any questions

The downside in "doing nothing" is that I could see it may potentially add a delay in the process, because if they require information then we will be trading documents. The downside in sending a letter is that I can see this could call attention to the matter unnecessarily...or even confuse the matter.

What say you?

Hi chrismanilyn, I kinda have a similar case and I just want to ask since your issue is the only one closest to mine.

My fiance and I are planning to file the K-1 visa soon and we researched on the requirements and it includes the police clearance from Singapore, where I lived for almost 9months as well.

But my case is, in that 9months, I was in and out of the country three times every 2-3 months, normally 3-5 days each trip, therefore, I never really stayed in Singapore for 6 consecutive months because of those overseas trips.

So my question is, do I still need the police clearance? and here's my dilemma

a) if I don't honor my 9 months in Singapore, granted that I didnt stay there for 6 consecutive months, and the US Embassy finds out and disagrees, I'm afraid that they'll think I'm hiding important information, which may cause delay

or

b) if I do honor it and key in 9months in Singapore in my documents, (and if it's really Singapore's policy to issue police clearance only for those who have stayed there 6 consecutive months) the Singapore police tells me i dont qualify for the police clearance because of my "staggered stay", then there will be discrepancy between what i put on the document vs singapore police, which may cause delay as well

so im really clueless and what needs to be done. will appreciate reply. thank you.
