Biometrics and timeline

Filed: Timeline

I am about to send off my application for citizenship. I heard if you had biometrics recently you don't have to do it again. I did biometrics twice last year - March when I originally sent my application to remove conditions and then again in August because it took uscis 5 months to let me know the fingerprints didn't work and had to be redone.

Am I correct that since my last fingerprints were done 7 months ago I don't have to redo them. Also if I don't does this mean that I can save myself the biometrics fee.

Also I was wondering what the general timeline was from submitting application until when you are granted citizenship. I live in MA and my application is usually sent to the box in Vermont. Also when are you considered a US citizenship - after passing the interview and tests, or do you have to wait until after the oath cermonary? I need to know this in order to apply for government programs.

When you pay biometrics fee, you actually pay for background check they conduct in order to process your N-400. So, if you had your fingerprints done recently, they can do background check using those fingerprints.

You can check timelines in the threads of different months' filers.

There are different filing locations for different types of applications. The filing location for N-400 is not in Vermont.

You have to wait until the oath ceremony.
