My British fiance lived/backpacked in Australia for 10 months so we're going to need her to get a police check from Oz. Does she also need to get the additional fingerprints as well or is a name check sufficient?

finger prints too

Yes finger prints are required.

The good news is you should be able to get fingerprints taken elsewhere and send them along with your Australian Federal Police check application. I lived in Western Australia, and most police stations do not have the ability to take fingerprints so I had to get them done in Perth city manually, and then sent them off with my applications. In all other states you can get your fingerprints done and get the AFP police check done then and there (from what I understand), sucks living in WA!

You may have this information already, but hopefully I can help.

For the Australian Side of things, you will be applying for a 'National Police Check', details and application form can be found here; http://www.afp.gov.au/what-we-do/police-checks/national-police-checks.aspx the cost is AU$105 and took me about 2 weeks to get them.

As far as the fingerprints themselves, I would call them on this number : +61 2 6202 3333 to find out how you would go about getting fingerprints done in the UK.

I know it's a pain in the butt, I can symathise, I lived in the UK for a short period of time and yep, had to do the opposite, pay an arm and a leg for a UK Police Check, then also get the Australian AFP one too...

Best of luck, feel free to ask more information, I'm happy to help!
