I just discovered that I have an error on my green card. The error is critical, so I HAVE to file I-90 to fix it.

The instruction for I-90 say that I have to attach my green card to the application. And according to what I read here it can take

a few months to get the new fixed card.

So the question is - how am I supposed to be all this time without any legal document proving my status? How can I travel? How can somebody hire me?

Please help, it is very urgent!

Thank you all!

You should receive a NOA letter which is similar to all the other NOA letters that officially indicates taht you are legally living here and eligibility for employement.

But yes, do photocopy the GC and the application before mailing it.

You can hold on to the photocopy of the GC, prob you would not be able to travel out of US until that us resolved.

you can travel if i551 stamp is still valid in your passport.

I've never had i551 stamp in my passport. what is it?

Does it mean that I still will not be able to travel outside US?
