Good day,

I'm in need of some serious advice. On 12/13/11, my fiance went in for his interview (in Port of Spain, Trinidad). Unfortunately, he didn't receive his packet in time to get his medical done before the interview. He was interviewed anyway and instructed to bring back his medical results and my 1040 form which I forgot to send. He was never asked to show proof of a relationship during the interview. He handed in the medical and 1040 and was given a letter saying that the visa would be granted. Yesterday, the day in which he was supposed to get the visa, the embassy called requesting that he bring in the proof. He gave them my passport stamps, boarding passes, pics of us and phone records. The officer is requesting that we provide more proof. My fiance told them that we met 7 yrs ago, but we became serious 3 yrs ago. The officer is confused as he thinks we've been in a relationship for 7 yrs and that's not the case. As a result, we don't have 7 yrs worth of proof. Please help me as the agent at the embassy told me that the case doesn't "look good". I am so upset and am trying not to have an attitude of defeat. Any advice would be GREATLY APPRECIATED. Thank you

At any point did either of you state on the forms that you had been in a 7 year relationship?

If I were you I would dig deep for as much evidence as you can find to show the friendship years....as well as consistent communication of the 3 in the relationship. It's a miracle they are allowing more time to provide this info. I would take advantage of the opportunity and get whatever you have together ASAP!

Thanks for your reply. He mentioned that we met 7 years ago to the officer during the interview. The most evidence I have during the friendship years are my passport stamps. I'm extremely camera shy, so pics from those years would be rare. I didn't think they were necessary then as we were just friends. In terms of phone records, I canceled my service with AT&T so they can't send me copies of my past phone records. I just made an appt to fly down there and go in with him to speak to the officer. I'm hoping that my presence will help and that I can rectify my situation

That's a shame about the phone records and pics...I don't know they would be a determining factor but they would have been helpful. But your presence is a great idea. I think its important you go. If they feel the need to question you separately, so be it...but then they will have the evidence they need.

I don't know if Trinidad & Tobago is considered high fraud or not, but I think showing up at the second interview will help. However, you still need to show proof. If you knew each other for 7 year, but only have a 3 year relationship show exactly that: emails, chat logs, phone bills, etc. It is necessary that you dig deeper and compile what you find.

Don't ever do anything you're not willing to explain the paramedics.

I think I would clearly restate in writing having met 7 years ago - attach evidence of copies of passport stamps and anything else you can find that may help support that time - you could have had the odd card etc but people don't always keep every little thing forever.

Then everything you have/can supply for the recent 3 years. Three years is a reasonably long time to be in a closer relationship before marriage and be able to provide detailed proof. I agree you are in a good position to be allowed the extra time to provide additional info, so just supply as much as you can in a logical order... any consistent communications such as printed chat logs, further visits, tickets to events, etc. (Check with friends if anyone has photos etc at the same events/occasions).

Best of luck !

Thank you both for your advice. I'm already looking at wedding venues because I thought he would've picked up his visa yesterday. I have an appointment tonight to see venues, so I plan on taking that paperwork with me as well.

That's a good idea.. If you have purchased or received quotes on any other wedding related things, bring those along also. And as others said, even though you are going, still plan to bring all the evidence you can find.
