Shortly after I mailed off my I-129f petition, I received the following email:

Dear Applicant/Petitioner:

Your USCIS application/petition has been received and routed to the Vermont Service Center for processing. Within 7-10 days by standard mail you will receive your official Receipt Notice (Form I-797) with your Receipt Number EAC**********. With the official Receipt Notice (Form I-797) you may visit www.uscis.gov where you can check the status of your application using My Case Status. We suggest you wait until you have received your Form I-797 before checking My Case Status.

This confirmation provides notification of the date USCIS received your application/petition. This notice does NOT grant any immigration status or benefit. You MAY NOT present this notice as evidence that you have been granted any immigration status or benefit. Further, this notice does NOT constitute evidence that your application remains pending with USCIS. The current status of your application/petition must be verified with USCIS.

PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO THIS MESSAGE

I tried signing in using my receipt number, but I received this message:

Your case can not be found at this time in My Case Status. Please check your receipt number and try again.

Am I doing something wrong? When am I supposed to check my status? How long is the usual wait? It's been 2 months now since I received that email! :(

Thanks,

Corey

I called the USCIS the other day, because i sent my petition in august, I got my NOA1 in the snail mail btw, did not sign up for email alerts. I decided to check with my receipt number the other day for the first time, and it also said, that my case number is not valid, (or something similar) needless to say, i was a little freaked out, :o

I called USCIS, and tried my receipt number on the phone menu, AGAIN, i was told it was invalid, I called back again, and went through the menu, as " i do not know my receipt number" , and spoke with someone, who, AGAIN tells me my number is not valid, (scary) then she says, "hmm, i dont know, let me transfer you to someone else" the next man was very helpful and nice, asked my name, DOB, and says "oh, okay, are you petitioning for (my fiance's name)? And i said yes, he says my petition IS THERE. AND NOT TO WORRY, that this just happens sometimes... (they probably dont update the system WE can see very often, Im assuming)

.........but you do realize this NOA2 approval takes around 5 months? Did you see that they cashed the check? I would call if I were you..Probably the same thing that happened with mine......
