I got it confirmed with Chennai Consulate Immigration Visa Unit. Yes. Starting January 2012, they will move all immigrant visa interviews at Mumbai Consulate not in Chennai. Here is the e-mail confirmation.

Effective January 2012, all of US Consulate Chennai’s Immigrant Visa processing are

moving to US Consulate Mumbai to improve efficiencies of operation. Your

next visa interview will be in Mumbai and not/not in Chennai.

Chennai, IVU.

Hi All,

Those who wish to know their Interview dates at the Mumbai Consulate for Jan 2012, need not call the NVC. The same can be checked at the Mumbai Consulate website. http://mumbai.usconsulate.gov/

Visas to US ---- Immigrant Visa--- Interview Appointment Schedule (Found on left hand side)

The dates are usually put around 15 of previous month . So, for jan it should be out by next week.

Hope this helps.

A few of the members that have had Mumbai as their consulate from the beginning have gotten their dates already for early January. I hope the case transfer does not alter anything and you still get a date in January.

Right now, it's a shot in the dark as to what is going on. It obvious they are not releasing any info until the process is more fluid and has been tested.

It's quite good to assume now all the old timelines and estimates are invalid with the new changes as now Mumbai has a lot more work cut out for them with the combining of Chennai consulate workload.

I have a feeling that it is not going to happen in January for us. :( This is all a bit disheartening for those of us who got caught in between. I need to plan a trip to India to visit hubby soon then, it's been almost 10 months since I've seen him!

Thanks for the reply, Dave! Good luck to everyone waiting for Interview dates! :-)

i am waiting to hear case complete. how did you abt case complete? called up operator?

yes, had to call operator, he said that case was completed on Dec 7th, plus I asked him my new case number since the case has been transferred to Mumbai Embassy.

Using my new case number, if I call to IVR, then it says that case has been completed on Dec 7th.

So you may call them whenever you think necessary. All I noticed, they are completing the cases quickly. :)

i sooo hope too...i dont mind going there or anywhere fr that matter for the interview..but the fear of delay is killing me..!! plus gotta change all ma plans too...

yup you are right it is a bit difficult to change the mind set once the case is completed as they have already allocated a chennai visa no. they should have conducted the already allocated visa no. at there original location, for fresh ones they could have allocated mumbai, but don't worry the delay in interview date in mumbai was mainly because of the shift to new consulate, now the shift has already been done and the new consulate is far more spacious with enough no. of window i am sure the appointment will not be delayed as it happen in our case also when you will check the no. of interview in nov and dec it was more than 100 far more than previous months..

Hope it does not effect the way the use to schedule the chennai appointment.

Lots of luck to all of you

Thanks for the info. I called the NVC & the AVR i get is " a packet of information and documents was generated and sent within the next few weeks please follow the instructions carefully and return the information to the address provided if 6 weeks have passed since the nvc sent this letter and your agent has not received this information please press 0"

What does this mean, as i have already sent back those documents ?

Thanks,

Seems like that you used your old case number to track your package status.

Can you call to customer care executive and ask them for your new case number? After that, check that out, and let me know how it goes.

You are right but Mumbai will have the schedule put up after all the dates of the month have been filled up. I don't think everyone wants to wait till the list is put up to get to know their interview dates. It is good to call NVC, so that one can plan things accrodingly.

After reading this, I am wondering if there are any changes in where to apply DCF as well? Do we still go to Delhi and then will have to go to Mumbai for interview? We are coming for 6 hours south of Chennai, I thought just going to Delhi and then Chennai for the interview was gonna be a lot ....

If anyone knows, please let me know...otherwise i think i will try to contact the consulate and find out.
