mia j...ur case was completed on october 26 and u still didnt get an interview?! and i thought chennai consulate was fast...that means i will have to wait a looong time fr an interview...even i got a new case num on dec5,2011..first one was assigned on nov 7, 2011

What I understand so far, they said that their new office has capacity 4 times more, 40 interview counters than their previous Mumbai office. If it is all true, then they should proceed the application more faster.

Lets see how it all goes.

Just checked out US Consulate Mumbai site to get more info:

Like Kolkata application IV interview has to be done in US Consulate Mumbai, but their medical exam can be done in Kolkata.

http://mumbai.usconsulate.gov/medical_examination2.html

I guess, for similar situation, for Hyd & Chennai, medical exam can be done as usual it used to be.

Logically it wouldnt make any sense if they push all South Indian applicants to get medical in Mumbai area only. I understand, US Consulate has big area for new office in Mumbai - like 4x more capacity compare of old office, but not for medical center.

wen i asked NVC..they said medical also from Mumbai....

Could be that they are not aware as info has not yet updated everywhere. Because the point is that, Kolkata people have their interview in Mumbai but their medical are done in Kolkata.

Jeez, it's just getting scarier and scarier. To begin with, it's almost four months since my NOA1 and still waiting for my NOA2. And now this whole moving the interviews to Mumbai thingy! Would I be able to join my husband any time soon, I wonder! Especially it being just 5 months since our wedding, and staying apart is so difficult!

Yikes! We finished right on time!

It seems like the made a huge complex to house the massive influx of visa applicants but then they took a huge step back by closing down Chennai. Who know's, maybe a renovation is in order for Chennai consulate in the future.

I pray they start their process quickly for IV interview. Since they mentioned that they would have 40 interview counters, and 4x more capacity to handle the applications, and hope they have that much staff to manage the things.

Gotta remember that fiancee and spouse visa's are always available but the family based (brother, sister etc) are the ones they have a limited allotment each year to grant. They are quite backed up on those...I would not be surprised if they double the F-2 visas processing 2-1 to a spouse/fiancee visa processing.

Fiancee visa's are usually faster but are scrutinized more to get through unscathed. They actually have to end up paying more as they have to file for Adjustment of Status and from a standpoint of money they (Department of State) makes more with the K-1 visa's than the IR-1/CR-1.

Not trying to scare anyone this is just how I see it, it's my opinion.

Hey,

This is exactly what the guy I spoke to at NVC told me...well, he had to put me on hold and get the info from someone else first. He said, "your case has been moved to Bombay because the Chennai Consulate won't be processing immigrant visas from January". When I asked if this is going to further delay everything, he said, "we are hoping this will move things along faster". Also told me to call end of next week to see if we got a January date. Hopefully they will have a faster, more efficient and centralized system in Mumbai now! :)

Good luck everyone!

A few of the members that have had Mumbai as their consulate from the beginning have gotten their dates already for early January. I hope the case transfer does not alter anything and you still get a date in January.

Right now, it's a shot in the dark as to what is going on. It obvious they are not releasing any info until the process is more fluid and has been tested.

It's quite good to assume now all the old timelines and estimates are invalid with the new changes as now Mumbai has a lot more work cut out for them with the combining of Chennai consulate workload.

Hi All,

I read the news about the interviews moving to Mumbai COnsulate. I see that , applications approved by NVC in oct have still not got an interveiw date. I have paid the required fees & waiting for the next steps. Can anyone please tell me how long it can take for my case to be completed at NVC ? I submitted all the forms to NVC during last week of September . Many Thanks for your help !!

Hi All,

Those who wish to know their Interview dates at the Mumbai Consulate for Jan 2012, need not call the NVC. The same can be checked at the Mumbai Consulate website. http://mumbai.usconsulate.gov/

Visas to US ---- Immigrant Visa--- Interview Appointment Schedule (Found on left hand side)

The dates are usually put around 15 of previous month . So, for jan it should be out by next week.

Hope this helps.
