CHENNAI CONSULATE CLOSED..!!!!!???

hello there...guys i called NVC yesterday to see if i was scheduled an interview as my case closed on dec1,2011...the lady told me that i was in queue for an interview in mumbai consulate....whereas originally i was waiting for an interview frm chennai...she said they are combining both the consulates starting jan 1, 2012...they gave me a BMB case number too...whts happening? any ideas??

I doubt if they would close Chennai Consulate for IV. In all India, there are currently only 3 consulate for IV - Dehli, Mumbai, Chennai.

Chennai Consulate is very old for IV. It would be strange if they consider to close it.

The United States Consulate General office here in Mumbai, which recently has moved to a new 11-acre complex in Bandra Kurla, will now process immigrant visas for the South as well.

Consular chief David Tyler, speaking to the media on an official tour of the new premises on Wednesday, said the move, which would come into effect from January 9, was an attempt to centralise the visa workload in the city Mumbai. Those planning to migrate to the U.S. from the South will have to send their applications to Mumbai instead of to Chennai. However, applications for all other visas will be dealt with directly by different centres as in the past.

The Consulate officially opened on November 21 at its new location. Now, the outdoor waiting area is spacious and the inside holds 40 windows for interviews, four times more than in the earlier building. The entire complex is ‘disabled-friendly.' The goal, Mr. Tyler said, was to bring in people within under an hour. New and new features such as electronic screens displaying token numbers would also reduce noise levels. The new complex brings all U.S. government offices in the city together in one location. The library is housed here and will reopen to the members on December 5. Built at a cost of $ 83,520,253, the building area is about 18,700 sq. metres and uses desert pink sandstone on the exterior.

its really disappointing..knowing how difficult getting an interview date in mumbai can be..anyways since its al big and posh now, maybe we can expect miracles.!

i sooo hope too...i dont mind going there or anywhere fr that matter for the interview..but the fear of delay is killing me..!! plus gotta change all ma plans too...

I am really disappointed about all this. Since I am living in Chennai, and if I have to go to Mumbai then that is an another expense, time investment, blah blah.

this is bad, or it could be good. I guess we all have to wait and see. Maybe it would be a good idea for people who go to the new Mumbai consulate give detailed feedback. This will help others who are gonna go there.

Yes, medicals can be done in Chennai.

For example: Hyderabad, even people used to come to Chennai for interview, but they can do medical in Hyd itself.

Same thing happened to me today. I called DOS today just to see if we were appointed an interview date since someone told me they might know sooner or something. I gave him my case number and he coudn't find my case. So he located it with my SS number and said I have a new case number. So I freaked out and called NVC and they are like yeah, we transferred your case to Bombay. They didn't even tell me anything until I specifically asked. He said they are not processing such cases at Chennai anymore. Only thing is my husband just found out that our case number has been changed from OCT 26 to DEC 1. I really hope this does not mean, even more delays. So sad.

did they specifically tell like, they are moving all IV visa interviews to mumbai?
