  1. 1. Do you still celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving now that you live in the United States?

My in-laws love the fact that I celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving down here. They get TWO turkey dinners a year then instead of just one. I started it the first year I was here for Turkey day, kind of an ice breaker with the family, and it went very well and so I've continued it, turning it into a tradition.

We have my family's traditionbal meal of: a stuffed turkey, whipped potatos, gravy, sour cabbage rolls (unbelievably hard to find sour cabbage down here), shrimp lettuce salad, cranberries, fresh buns, carrots and brussel sprouts in cheese sauce, and for dessert we have 2 things 1: homemade cherry cheesecake and 2: homemade pumpkin pie with handwhipped whip cream (no can/bucket here!).

I'm looking forward to next weekends celebration as it will be my first since getting my Visa approved and doing my PoE earlier this week. :)

Handwhipped whip cream is the only way to go! I am going to a dairy to get the whip cream...it is the absolute best, I could skip the pie and just go for the whip cream lol

We always try to go back although since the Monday is not a holiday for my husband we usually miss the turkey dinner. Just enough time to check in on both of my boys and if time allows we visit my husband's family in Toronto (he's dual citizen) . This year, for the first time, we will be in the US for American Thanksgivng so I'll try to do the turkey thing then.

A big turkey dinner is my favourite meal to make (and my husbands to eat! laughing.gif)!! We will be going up to Michigan to spend the US thanksgiving with my family and I don't get to cook, so I'm really happy to be able to celebrate Canadian thanksgiving this year and do lots of cooking, I think I'm going to have to invite some friends to help eat all the food tongue.gif!! I hope I can find a fresh turkey this early around here...they taste so much better than the frozen.
