Hi all,

I have been with my wife to the embassy two times, the first time they requested more documentation.

The second time we brought it with, and they requested another I-864 from me, my 1040, and my W2. I sent them in via Cargo Expreso (what the embassy asks for).

At the end of the second interview my wife was given the paper that says "Congratulations" referring to the end of the visa process, but it was a mistake and they said as soon as we sent in the remaining documents the passport would be sent out.

2 weeks after sending the final documents needed, and 1 week after E-mailing the embassy, I received an email saying (more or less):

-The case is ineligible for a visa due to "Section 221g of the Immigration and Nationality Law of the United States (INA)"

-That my wife needed to send in information that was never received (although they never requested any type of documents from her)

It has been about a year and a half since we started the process, and as many of you have experienced it`s quite difficult. Does anyone have experiences like this? What could be done now? I feel the embassy is impossible to work with, especially because we were assured by the employee reviewing our case that once I sent in the documents the passport would be mailed out. Maybe the person who wrote me the E-mail is not informed about this. Is it possible to do a congressional inquiry? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

This is usually due to a lack on convincing evidence that you have a bonafied relationship. You need to know EXACTLY what she was asked at the interview if you weren't at the interview and EXACTLY what her answers were...if you were at the interview, review every thing they asked, she said, and you said. This is not the time to be defensive or angry--the facts as close as you can determine them are all that matter right now.

Thank you for the reply. I really appreciate your advice but I am positive evidence is not the issue. I was present at the interview, and we were actually given a document that said "Congratulations on your visa", until the consular realized I was missing a I-864, 1040, and W2, and assured us upon receipt of those and only those documents the passport would be sent. The confusing thing is the E-mail claims documents that were requested of my wife were never sent, and we are positive only the documents I just mentioned were requested. It's confusing and contradicting.

Yuck--sounds messy. El Salvador is a very difficult embassy, so that doesn't make it any easier. I'd call the head of the visa section, and ask exactly what do you need, or if you are still there, go on over and ask to see them in person.
