Had my naturalization interview yesterday in Fairfax, VA. Waited a little while but there were a lot of folks there. Interview went ok. Answered all my N-400 questions truthfully (of course). Only pause was regarding my daughter. She was born in Norway, never lived here and I provide child support via wire bank transfer. I offered this information myself as I did not see it as a problem. Anyway, got through rest of questions and answered civics questions without error. At the end, was asked to provide proof of child support. Agreement with daughter's mother (we were never married) was verbal, but I have years of bank statements to prove I pay support. I sent in a significant sample today (covering multiple years) to show this.

Also, I submitted by application whilst single in March. I married my fiance in May. I guess I could have waited until my application was decided, but as I have been a green card holder since 1989, I thought it would be obvious that I was long overdue to apply on my own. I suppose I could have made that clear in the interview. My wife is a citizen through birth. I submitted the marriage cert. at the interview.

On my N-652, it says only that I passed tests and to read instructions on the (attached) N-14. The N-14 only asks for proof of child support. There does seem to be a red mark in the box for "Congratulations...", but as my officer only said, somewhat ambiguously, "Just send the proof of child support, and you're good to go", I'll just ignore that. He could have just been saying that I can leave the room now...

I really don't know what to think, but am not feeling encouraged. Perhaps this is just due to the anti-climax of the interview. I guess I will just forget it until I hear something back. I understand this could be a while.

Just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and has any advice. I realize there could be a similar topic somewhere in here.

Thanks.
