PCC from Reg Passport Office Kolkata, India

Hi! Did anybody obtian a Police Clearence Certificate from Reginal Passport office of Kolkata recently. What is the process/procedure to obtain one. Please share.

I have done mine from Mumbai, but I believe the process should be fairly similar.

Had to fill out a form, and hand over the who thing with passport and fees to the passport office and tons of Pictures (I think now Indian govt wants ppl to put picture on each and every page of document).

Once that is done you should have your passport clearance stamp and letter back to you in6-8 weeks.

6-8 weeks? Thats a long time.

I am in the same boat here as Crazyaboutyou.

However we have yet to receive our NOA2s. I'm thinking I should get my fiancee to start on this process in the coming month as we are expecting NOA2 in a month's time.

How long are these Passport Clearance Certificate (PCC) valid for? 6 Months? 1Year?

Also there is this Police Clearance also right? Does this take equally long to obtain?

Yes you will have to submit the passport to passport office.

It's Indian system.... but the time fram can be different for different cities. I just mentioned about Mumbai and when I had applied for, this time might have reduced.

Yes when I applied I had applied for both police and passport clearance.

Its stupid to have both but thats how it is as passport office contacts your local police station so police station does the same check what they do for police clearance and then they send it back to passport office.

I got my police clearance done much faster, what I did was I got the clearance from the local police station in sealed envelope and submitted that to HQ instead of waiting on their internal courier system.

So HQ just had to write a letter based on the i/p I gave them and second they cannot delay in getting the letter based on the its lost in their internal courier system

Do you have any idea how long this "passport clearance" is valid.

I mean, its better to have the ducks in a row, but if they have an expiration date of say 4 months or 6 months, we can time it accordingly.

Also, I got my passport renewed earlier this year and a police verification was done for the same then why is this required again.

PCC refers to Police Clearance Certificate ..there is noithing like Passport Clearance Certificate...can you please tell us how you got your Police Clearance Certificate ..would really appreciate.

PCCs for Mumbai are for one year, I think. Mine was over 6 months when I had my interview and I didn't have any trouble. You might want to check with the Consulate-General. I know they changed some of the rules over the last year. Good luck!

If you don't feel like dealing with the stuff yourself, you can get it done through a travel agency. Mine was done in 7 days and I paid around Rs. 1000.

When I had my interview, Mumbai required a Police Clearance Certificate and a Passport Clearance from the RPO. I don't know if the rules have changed or not. If your passport is less than 6 months old, I know one of them is NOT required. But I can't remember which one off the top of my head. I got the passport clearance done through the travel agency and took care of the police clearance on my own. They are basically both clearances, and comes from different sources. Once I got the passport office clearance, I submitted a copy of that so that the second clearance didn't take too long either. Both combined were about 21 days. A police officer came to my house to verify the address and place of residence and asked a bunch of dumb questions, drank tea and took the Rs. 500 note my mom gave him happily to speed up the process. I got the Police Clearance first. Took me 3 weeks in Calcutta and then submitted it to the RPO, got my second PCC in a week.

From the Mumbai website: Indian citizens residing in India for six months or more since turning 16 years of age must present Indian police clearance certificates from both their district police station and the local area passport office. Applicants whose passports were issued within six months of the visa interview may present just the passport office certificate. These certificates are valid for one year from the date of issuance.

For Calcutta, the request had to be made to the Superintendent of Police. The clearance comes from Intelligence Bureau. The actual home check is made by someone in your local police station serving your residence district.

For the Passport clearance, all they needed was a copy of my marriage certificate and a copy of my husband's US passport.

If your passport was issued within 6 months..don't bother...you are fine...
