Hey there,

Am a first time poster but a long time reader! Really need some help with some (probably quite dumb) questions but figured the best way to get the answers is to ask! Thanks in advance for any help :)

So a little background... I'm from London and my fiancee is from Ohio. We submitted the petition back in December 2010 and got it approved in April 2011. I didn't get packet three (the letter with the links to the forms - DS2001, DS156, etc) until mid May but submitted them all except for the DS2001 mid-June. I had my medical on July 8th (which went just fine, so they said anyway!) and sent the DS2001 right after the medical.

So I was all excited for packet 4/interview date but knew it'd take a couple of weeks. But then I called the extortion line Wednesday (July 27th) and was told they did not have the DS2001 on their system. This set me back quite a bit. I got the paranoia and went straight out and overnighted another copy of the DS2001 (for peace of mind, mainly) just in case they never received it. But now I have no idea whether a) I am being ridiculously paranoid and it's completely normal for it to take this long (two weeks) for them to have it on the system/send me an interview appointment or b) there was some mess-up somewhere and I should resubmit. A big problem is the fact everywhere says different things: the embassy info section on here for London says it can take 10-12 weeks between packet 3 being received and the interview (although it doesnt mention how much of that period is waiting for the appointment letter), it seems most people here get theres within 2-3 weeks. The woman on the exortion line said I should expect it by the end of this month (July) but I really have no idea what to do. Also our petition expires in early-August so I'm a little more stressed out than I would be normally, although my fiancee already mailed them a letter saying we're still planning on getting married and requesting to extend the petition. Though when I mentioned this to the guy on line second time round he seemed pretty relaxed and said it's usually extended automatically (which bugs me because... what if it isnt?)

Thing is, I don't mind the waiting but the not-knowing is the hard part :( There is absolutely nothing on any of the forms or in the petition that'd delay the processing. No RFE or anything. And the medical people said my examination was fine (though do they just say that to everyone?) Sorry, I sound like a paranoid freak but we've been waiting so long and I was hoping to have the visa and move over there by early September!

Thanks

Hello and welcome first off :)

Let me ask you this, did you send a cover letter with your DS-2001? If not that may be an issue not 100% there but it does ask you for a cover letter. If yes then give it 10 business days. it took 9 days for our packet 3 to get logged after it arrived in London. They get a lot of mail and they got a lot of sorting/logging to do  Anyhow I would have your fiance call the DOS in nine days cause it's free and they have the same information as the expensive consulate number and ask them if all of packet three has been received and if it has do you have an interview date set, if not ask them if you are "interview ready".

Hope that helps! Best of Luck!

hey! thanks for the speedy reply!

yes I submitted a cover letter with both the original DS2001 and the one I sent the other day. On both I put the date of our wedding, the date of my medical and also put about the petition being extended. that's why I'm so confused because I feel we've really done everything right and can't think why it wouldn't have been done already! but hopefully it will be soon! Is DOS the Department of State? do they have a number I can call from over here or does she need to call them from over there? Thanks again.

Frustrating I know! Hopefully they speed it up but there is no harm calling NVC everyday you know. I did lol! Yes DOS is Department of State, I dont know what the number is to call from there or if there is one but it is a Washington D.C. number so it is waaay cheaper and easier for her to do it in my honest opinion. The number btw is: (202) 663-1225 Press 1 then 0 for a person
