On the I-130 did you state which consulate you were close or wanted to have the petition sent to?

I have gone through my I-130 and there is question relevant to fill in a preferred US consulate.

If you are referring to question 22 of I-130 (second part), I didn't fill as it is not relevant - people get confused and fill a US consulate abroad for the second part but the whole question 22 is relevant only for alien living in US. At least that is my understanding

Question 22. "Complete the information below if your relative is in the United States and will apply for adjustment of status"

"If your relative is not eligible for adjustment of status, he or she will apply for a visa abroad at the American consular post in:"

USA

01/08/13 - Approved and GC is order for production on 1/8/14

09/12/13 - Case transferred to CSC. NOA2 received on 09/18/13

08/30/13 - Biometrics Done - No walk ins allowed at this LSC (received on 8/16/13).

08/05/13 - NOA1 (received on 08/10/13)

08/01/13 - Mailed I-751 (received on 8/2/13 - check cashed on 8/5/13)

12/28/11 - Received SSN (applied on 12/20/11, as we didn't get based on DS-230 options)
11/28/11 - Received Green Card (Expires on 10/30/13) - Welcome Letter on 11/17/11
10/30/11 - POE - Houston, TX

Chennai Consulate (40 days)
10/28/11 - Received Visa papers and Passport at VFS
10/25/11 - Interview Cleared Successfully (Spouse was not allowed in)

NVC: (90 days from NOA2 to Consulate)
08/31/11 - Case Completed (Interview 10/25/11) - Received at Chennai on 09/19/11
07/22/11 - NVC Case Number

USCIS: (92 days)

6/21/11 - NOA2 (NOA1 on 3/25/11) - took a month to get to NVC
3/21/11 - I-130 sent to USCIS Lockbox, Chicago.

There is a TON confusion there, I totally agree. But after researching it, you are actually supposed to state which consulate you want to interview at. It's irrelevant though, as most people do not fill anything out and they get the correct consulate/embassy based on their locations (city/state) jurisdiction.

I did not fill out that section and i have not received my NVC number so I can not tell you for certain where my wife will interview.

I am sure that some guys might have filled the second part. But I am not sure if it is considered. I think they might have made a mistake in assigning Mumbai to us.

When I first migrated to US on H4 visa (my father's H1), we got interview at Mumbai even though we moved from Mumbai to Hyderabad 4 years to that time. The Mumbai Consulate questioned my father the reason for coming to Mumbai instead of Chennai. He simply said that we came to Mumbai because the interview letter indicated Mumbai. They then completed his interview and gave us our visas. It was a mistake then and I guess it is a mistake now also.

@ NavyK,

This has happened due to not entering the name of embassy/consulate in Question no. 22 (I-130 form).

You (or your spouse) are not eligible for adjustment of status, that is why it was required to enter the name of consulate in Question no. 22.

You may request NVC to change the consulate to Chennai by letting them know that its nearby.

Thanks besthopes. I called NVC and am getting the Case Number changed to MDR..... (Operator informs that it may take 10 - 15 days), the IIN will not change. However operator also says it could done quickly, as the case full details have not be updated in my case.

Operator clarified that the US Embassy is assigned based on the address (State) of the beneficiary given in I-130 and not on Question 22 (it is relevant only for beneficary that was in US at the time of I-130 petion filing but can't stay in US till the approval of the petition). In fact she confirmed the address of the beneficiary to be what was provided in C. Item 2 and then said that she would get the issue rectified. She said that it was good that I called, as Mumbai consulate have the option to re-direct the papers to Chennai at the time of interview, which could delay the process.

We actually might get the same interview date, seeing how our case closed the same day.

Nothing other other Medical is to be done, other than pay VFS fees prior to the interview i think?

Hello guys,

My priority date is 20 MAY 2002 - my case no didn't show up in the interview list put up by mumbai consulate for august - but hoping it would be for september. My case was complete sometime in January of this year - I understood from them at that time that they are just waiting for the priority date to be current.

any idea on when to expect interview ???

E3 is work visa, but only for Australians..... so I am not sure what kinda visa you are applying for.

Rest of these guys on the forum are on IR1, which gets the highest priority.

Is there anybody got interview in Sep. for Bombay Consulate!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sep schedule will come out between 1st and 15th Aug... good luck

what is a full form of DOS?

Department of State.

Dial 202-663-1225 Then press 1 and then 0 for an operator. Have your case number ready.

The operator should be able to tell you where your case is at and if you have an interview date scheduled.

NVC schedules interviews during the second week of the month for the next month. Mumbai also schedules during the last week of the month but those dates are NOT for the next month but rather, the month after.

For example, my case was completed towards the end of March, so my interview was scheduled for May, not April.

Good luck to all those waiting and those with upcoming interviews!
