All I can say is my experience and this was prior to being a US perm residence was I drove our car across quite regularly and even got pulled over in Winnipeg with the US car, plates and all. Never had a problem always had a copy of marriage cert (the car is not in my name at all) The car even got broke into and I made a police report on it. I still never had any trouble. SO to me the situation seems weird to say the least. I personally would do the fly up route to get the SuV and have a nice visit :)..We always paid in Money arder and at one point our application got rejected and they sent back the entire package...Odd!!

Like I have said many times before I can only advise you of what is legal and what is not. It is NOT legal for a Canadian resident to drive a US non-imported non duty and tax paid vehicle in Canada. Period. What you want to do with that information is up to you. Most RCMP/police are not necessarily versed in Customs regulations so yes it is possible that they haven't acted on it before. But I will tell you this there are a lot of ex customs officers that now work for the RCMP and police agencies that do know that it is not allowed and then you may very well get your vehicle seized.

You as a non resident of canada can bring in ur USA plated vehicle with no problem. Its like many others things, you can do it, but is it really legal, and does the officer know the law, and does he enforce it

My husband talked to a friend today who is an RCMP officer. He was told the same thing. If he got caught, he'd be in deep sh*t. We don't want to cheese anyone on either side of the border off. So the SUV is staying in Grand Forks until he has his visa and is ready to move. Then I'll drive it to Calgary. His parents go to Grand Forks frequently, so they have the spare key to check on it and start it up every month or so.
