The Privateer Newsletter presents some interesting factoids about how America got to this point:

  • Not one penny of U.S. debt has been repaid for 51 years: the last time US government funded debt actually decreased on a year-over-year basis was 1960;

  • 97% of today’s funded debt has been accumulated since August 1971 – the end of the Bretton Woods agreements when President Nixon took America off the gold standard;

  • President Obama for the budget through 2020 projected only a 2.5% interest rate on the federal debt, whereas the actual interest cost since 1980 has averaged 5.7%. If the 5.7% interest cost was used, the US deficit would increase by another $4.9 trillion by 2020;

  • President Obama projects 4.2% growth rate of the economy for the next 3 years. If growth is only 2.5%, deficits would increase by another $4 trillion by 2020;

  • The US government borrows 40-50 cents for every dollar it spends. A balanced budget without reducing the existing debt will require cutting government spending in half.

  • The current agreement to cut $2 trillion of spending over ten years, in exchange for raising the debt ceiling $2.4 trillion debt ceiling will only fund the Treasury until before the next presidential election.

The Treasury will need to borrow $20 trillion or ten times more than the proposed deficit reduction agreement over the next decade.

It's not a lack of time or effort invested on my end. It clearly isn't. What you're missing is the simple fact that you are making patently false claims that you have no way of actually backing up. You cannot prove that the claim you made has any validity whatsoever and you know it. Hence, you break out your pacifier and act like the little baby that you apparently are. Don't try to have adult conversations until after you dispose of them diapers for good, okay?

I think what mawilson is getting at is that their compensation etc. is not a revenue but rather an expenditure issue.

What is? Congress leading? Or Congress leading by example?

I know what he's getting at. Since tax revenues pay for these partisan hacks in DC, they should not be in office or at minimum, should reduce their salaries to reflect their success rate at effectively representing their constituents- not just the rich they're protecting from so many 'unfair tax hardships.' Its hilarious to have the 'help' defending these people so much with not much in terms of actual benefit to them, but then again, when one sells oneself to the idea that someone else will do their bidding if they don't, it becomes dog eat dog logic for them; screw everyone else. Really unhealthy (and pessimistic) way of living.

Cut their salaries to make them better leaders.

Or go along with all the Americans that are not currently employed. Please spare us the 'they're not looking hard enough' for work BS.

How about letting states pay their own senators and congressional reps? Then states can decide how much they're worth based on how much bling they bring back or manage to keep in-state.

Spoon feed? Nobody is looking to be spoon fed. You have been asked to substantiate your ridiculous claim. Bottom line, you can't. It's BS, always has been and always will be. I know it must suck when the real world isn't on your side but you chose that side to stand on. At least learn to live with your decisions without getting all pissy when called out. Or try to live in the real world for a change - if you can handle it.
