I had my K1 visa at Mumbai consulate today..I got approved, well actually pre approved since I am missing my PCC from passport office( we already knew we would get 221 g for missing PCC) . All in all the interview was great.

I reached VFS at 6 30 am as I had a 7 30 am appointment. The bus came at 7 10, we reached the consulate by 7 20. The 7 30 appointments were sent in front of the line outside consulate.

Went inside after security check, got finger print taken and then waited to be called by pre screener.

I was called by the pre screener at 7 45. She took my affidavit of support, returned birth certificate. I told her I was missing the PCC. She said thats not an issue, I can give it later. She took my old and new passport as well. questions she asked-

- Is this the first marriage for you both?

- When did you come back from USA?

-How long were you there?

-When was the last time your fiance came to India?

After waiting for about 2.5 hours, I was finally called at 10 50 am. It was long and frustrating wait. I was called to window 9- where an Indian( not the same pre-screener) and a young female CO were waiting for me. After making me take a oath, she made me sign the DS 156K and asked following questions.

-Tell me something about yourself?

- Where are you studying right now? Which classes are you taking?

- When was the last time you met your fiance?

- When did your fiance meet you after you came back to India from the USA?

- Are your parents ok with the fact that your fiance and you take holidays together before marriage?

- When did you come back from USA?

- What are your wedding plans in the USA? Why this specific date?

- Why are you studying in this specific school?

Can I see some photos? I passed some photo sheets of our engagement, then she wanted more, I slipped her another 30-40. She was seeing them with a smile on her face and said " cute"

Then she asked some specific questions about one of the destinations we visited. She said oh I went there last year with my sister, did you go here and there( blah blah asking about some places there, to which I showed her photos of those places)

She then said "Ok your visa is granted, you will receive your passport in 3 business days. At this point I had to remind her about the missing police certificate., then she said ok your not approved but pre-approved. I am very satisfied with your interview, I just need you to give us your PCC, we will then send back your passport and visa a few business days later.

Some tips- Be calm and maintain eye contact. The CO was very nice, they are not there to make your life hell. They did not ask any trick questions. The waiting time is the worse part. Mumbai was also very fast in sending out my packet 4. I sent them my packet 3 o 26th April, on 2nd may I got an appointment for 20th May.

Goodluck to everyone having an interview in Mumbai. On the whole, they are nice and not unreasonable.

Congratulations. Thanks for the detail explanation. It will definitely help us out. My fiancee went to Ahmedabad to get her pcc but they wouldn't give it to her without the interview letter. Were you able to get your medical done before you got your interview letter or did you have to wait for that to make an appointment? Btw, did you have the affidavit of support notorized by someone in the US?

You have to have your interview letter for the medical exam. The lead time for getting the medical is VERY short though, so I wouldn't worry about it. You can typically schedule it 2-3 days ahead of when you want to go for the exam. Did you try getting the PCC by giving them a scanned copy of the NOA 2? Also, you don't need the affadavit of support notarized.

Goodluck!

My fiance is having trouble getting a passport clearance certificate too.

A couple of years ago, the USCIS removed the requirement to have the I-134 notarized. However, the Indian embassy websites still request a notarized copy. Better to be safe than sorry, we got our notarized.

By the way, the I-134 expires on May 31, 2011 and I haven't found an updated copy on the net yet. However, the USCIS website does say that for the current version, previous editions are still accepted so it may not be that big of a deal.

We are still waiting on the NOA2 but just getting all the forms ready. Tried getting the pcc and ran across that issue. But they did say that it only takes 4-5 days to get the pcc once you have your interview letter...so I guess a lot to do once we receive the interview letter and the interview date. We will be sending the applicant statement, DS 156 and DS 230 the same day we get the packet three. Anything else i need to send with packet three?

Did either of you guys use DS 2001? I

I saw the I 134 is expiring on May 31st also....and I think DS 156 is also expiring on May 31st.

Thanks.

I didn't send a notarized copy of my birth certificate. VFS will take your original birth certificate and a copy, you can get it attested if you like but its not required.
