Any word from Montreal?

I know we're all aware of the fact nobody can book interviews right now, but has anyone heard anything *else* from Montreal lately? Our file was sent from NVC two weeks ago and even DoS has told my Fiance that it should've been there by now. He had one agent tell him that Montreal isn't processing or udpating anything right now (I'm assuming they meant receiving cases, P3/P4 etc...) and another say that ours just hasn't arrived and to call back "in a few weeks". and anotehr say it was there but not entered into the system yet, etc.

So I was just wondering if anyone has heard from them at all, since this trouble started? :(

I'm curious as to what exactly Montreal Consul is doing, theres really nothing on their website or nothing in the news to say anything of why things are on a " stand still " I know they are backed up but wouldn't stopping everything like this make things get MORE backed up in the long run?

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

ROC was approved in 3 months and 2 days without interview.

Seems logical to me... Maybe if they were just holding off on interview booking for a bit and having people focus on other things that are even further behind? I don't know. Obviously there's things we don't know about what's going on there but it's really frustrating and even if my interview is booked for 6 months away I'd like to get it booked so we at least *know*. And I'm sure more people feel that way... :(

I have heard that my pkt 3 was received in Montreal on April 28th. I still haven't received pkt 4 in the mail yet but I'm hoping it will arrive this week. So I'm not sure if they are sending anything out but they should still receive it. When my application was forwarded to Montreal it took a few weeks before I got pkt3 in the mail. I think it was forwarded at the end of January and I didn't get anything in the mail until early March.

It's not just that I'm waiting for Packet 3 though, as far as they're telling us they haven't gotten our file from the NVC at all and it's been more than two weeks. So even if they aren't sending things out right now, it seems they also aren't even processing anything received.

For what it's worth, a lag between leaving NVC and Montreal logging it isn't uncommon (for Montreal ;) ). It's probably arrived there by now, like you were told, and just sitting in the bog that is Montreal's mail room for the timebeing, waiting to be entered into their system. Hang in there!

So I've been following this forum for awhile, but as its getting down to the wire for my fiancee, I thought I'd get involved.

I am in a very similar situation to the OP, but about 10 days behind. I just called the NVC today, and they said my petition was sent to Montreal last week, on the 25th of April.

I was wondering if you could provide me with the phone number you called that finally told you they'd sent packet 3? I know they haven't probably received or processed my petition, but I'm getting pretty nervous about getting an interview in time and I want to start bugging them asap.

I was also wondering if I can register so that when they do send out packet 3, it will be sent by courier.

My time crunch issue: My fiancee and I are having our wedding ceremony in Canada on August 5th. We aren't going to get legally married at that point, and were planning on crossing the border back to the states on August 9th for our honeymoon in Hawaii. But reading these posts that Montreal hasn't been scheduling visas has got me seriously worried that we won't be able to schedule an interview in time. So any and all advice is most welcome!

Thanks for the help!!

All I can suggest is to keep checking periodically throughout the day. I did that last week after not seeing any dates for I *think* about a 2-3 weeks. As soon as I found out that P4 was logged last week, I checked online for dates and the third time I refreshed it there was a date available for june.

Keep trying and congrats on your upcoming ceremony :)

We used this post to contact DoS: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/264972-shortcuts-when-checking-for-updates-from-the-nvc-and-dos/

You don't need to receive Packet 3 before you send it out, actually. I put mine in the mail today following the guidelines discussed here: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/305085-montreal-process-recap/ That thread also has a lot of helpful advice for speeding things up as much as we can. Hopefully it all works out for you! :)

So any and all advice is most welcome!

Thanks for the help!!

You won't be able to reach Montreal and bug them for an appointment. The only people you can reach to get an update on your case is DOS and they have access to the foreign consulate's databases.

The consulate does not send Packets 3 and 4 via courtier even if registered with DHL, it's standard Canada Post. But as soon as DOS tells you the consulate mailed you a packet, you can mail the according forms without waiting to have the actual letter in your hands. You can save weeks doing this and that's the only way you can speed up the process.

You can plan a trip to the US while your visa is pending but keep in mind you might be denied entry (especially for a honeymoon trip with a USC). It's all up to the POE officer. If asked, you will have to disclose your engagement, your pending visa and the purpose of your trip. If you are turned down, it will not hurt your visa application as long as you remain polite and truthful in your answers. If you do attempt to cross the border, I would recommend you bring a copy of your forms to show you know and respect the proper immigration procedure. Also bring strong proof of ties to Canada (your pay stubs, rental contract, letter from your employer saying they expect you back by XX date, etc). It is unfortunately very common fiance(e)s and spouses are denied entry when visiting during the immigration process.

Last time I was able to check on the CSC website Montreal was booked until August. Some earlier dates can become available but my 2 cents : don't make any plans until you have your visa in your hands :(

Thanks so much for all the advice guys. Will the CSC website tell me when the packet 3 is sent, or do I have to call DoS?
