Passport Stuck at US Embassy after Approval at Interview

Does anyone know whether a wait time of over 3 weeks for passport after K1 interview is usual??

Have emailed the consulate & received reply stating 'Your application is still being processed... there is no set period of time that visa processing will take'.

They kept my passport and gave me the pink slip to give to the courier desk so am under the impression that my case hasn't gone into AP but I've been waiting longer than the '7-10 days' I was advised on the day of the interview.

Does anyone how long I should expect to wait for passport to come back? Or whether there is a way to tell whether it has gone into AP?
