Hi everyone,

This is a two part question so I am not sure whether it should go in the DCF, Canadian section, or both. So I’ll give it a shot here.

We are looking for some advice from those knowledgeable about the DCF process who can tell us whether we may have messed up ours up.

Our situation

My husband is a US citizen and I am an UK citizen (both living in Montreal since 2009).

My husband at the start of this year lost his job so the first thing we decided to do was get our DCF process going, while he searched for a job in the USA. In February we started this process with the Consulate in Montreal. His Canadian work visa does not expire until later this year.

Since this my husband has recently landed a new job in the USA. At the time we thought it would be a good idea if he actually started work to keep us financially stable, and to strengthen our DCF case.

So exactly two weeks ago he started his new job and is staying in temporary accommodation. Note we still hold a permanent address in Montreal where I am currently residing.

So our questions are:

(Even though we started the DCF process before all this) does ‘him’ taking up employment and temporarily residing in the USA interfere with our DCF?

Does it also invalidate the Canadian Work Permit that he holds?

Initially, we thought that this would be beneficial to our case by showing ties to the USA and employment there. Now in hindsight we are worried that this may instead negatively impact our case.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
