Hi there

I've come to the US from the UK in mid-October on an L1B visa. My wife is on an L2 and came with me at the same time. Before we moved my wife was quite concerned about her having to wait a long time for an EAD but my employers told her it would be 90 days maximum, more likely 65 days. We thought this was manageable and therefore agreed to the move.

Now 150 days have passed and we still do not have an EAD. Yesterday we got a notice from USCIS that they will request further documents and it will be at least another 30 days before a decision will be made, i.e. 180 days total.

I am now having somewhat of an argument with my employers. They did at no point in the process mention that there might be a risk of this taking longer. the 90 days were always communicated to us as a 'Maximum'.

After having done some research on the web and also speaking to people it seems to me that it is not at all unusual for this to take longer than 90 days. However, I have no way of telling how likely delays in the EAD process really are.

I would therefore appreciate very much if some of you guys could tell me about your experiences. How long did it take to get an EAD on an L2 visa? Is it usually quicker than 90 days or does it quite frequently take longer? Any information will be much appreciated! I was hoping there would be some official website that shows you real-time processing times but it appears there isn't.

Many thanks

Lars

P.S. I am a German citizen and my wife is Spanish, just in case this makes any difference...

Hi,

I am pretty much in the same situation as you, although just about to apply for the EAD. When you applied, did you need to have your Social Security Number? I've been told it takes 90 days, but from your experience it looks to be longer. My partner is on an L1B and I'm on an L2, having moved from the UK. What documentation did you provide along with your application, and did you do it alone?

Cheers

Darren
