Hep B and children?

To those of you with children did they require the hep b needle? My girls are 7 and 10 and we are heading for our medicals on the 11th of September. Neither of mine like needles. Ok I will go so far as to say my oldest literally needs to be held down. Sooooo I obviously don't want to wait until Toronto for them to face this. I'd rather do it in an environment they are more familiar with.

Am I correct that this immunization is in three doses? Three separate needles? I am surprised because I really understood my children to be up to date with all their needles and now this?

Thoughts? Experiences?

get them the twinix it is the hep a & b combined and covered by most insurance companies. The sequence is 1St then a month later second shot then 6 months later the third and last shot. Good Luck my daughter was the same, hated needles but it is a very small needle.

Great info! Thank you. I didn't realize there was a difference. Question....had your daughter gotten them all before the medical? It says so long as they are in the process and as up to date as they can be with the progression it's good. That would mean they would finish in the USA. I wonder if there may be a problem with that? Starting in Canada and finishing in the USA? How old was your daughter? I was a lil concerned because they don't offer it in Ontario generally until 7th grade. My girls are many years from that. I wondered about it.

My daughter was 5 turning six. I am from Ontario. She had the first and second shot and is due for the third in October. Our pharmacy says that we can bring it over in a cooler with Ice or just come back and get it there to fill her immunization record. It can't hurt to get them both actually it's better. I work in Nursing and did alot of research on the Twinix vaccine. Oh, and our medical was about three weeks after her 2nd shot, she just needs the series finished before AOS approval. Good Luck.

Alright so I have this right Buttons....the girls can start with the process in Ontario and then I will need to get the same thing from Ontario and bring it here in a cooler for them to have given in the states or......take them back to Ontario to finish? I was wondering how I would tell a US Dr which vaccine they need or type etc.

So you just told your Dr what vaccine you wanted??? Our family Dr retired and we got a new younger one that took over the practice and ummm well ahhhhh I dislike her. So I have be careful what I say and how.

they probably have the vaccine in the usa, just i have insurance for my daughter in Canada that I pay a 1.00 so it will be easier for me to just bring it over or take her back to get it. For your new doctor in the USA, you would just show them the vaccination record and they should be able to provide a RX for the final injection.

ENGERIX-B has a Pediatric/Adolescent immunization whichcontains 0.5-mL dose instead of the adult 1mL dose. Both these are available in the US. They are made by gsk.

I believe that Buttons actually means TWINRIX Jr. That is what is on the prescription for both of my daughters that we picked up today. That is different from the regular TWINRIX for adults. In my city I was told by two pharmacies and my Doctors office that ENGERIX is on back order. Two pharmacies gave me an eta of four weeks or more. My girls had to meet with the doctor and have their weight taken prior to the prescription. We pick up the script tomorrow and head back for the first needle.

in manitoba its the hep b meningococcal c and varicella that is given in grade 4 at school
