Change of Address Question

Hi All I have a question, now that I can finally apply for citizenship (as soon as I have $650 to spare) we just bought a home of our own, hence the no money thing LOL but we have been working on it and have not moved in yet but are planning to do so this month, my question is if we move in and I send away the change of address how long does that take before I can safely apply for citizenship without risk of corispondence being lost in the mail or whatever other problems could arise from changing address.

Are you moving to a different location that has a different district office? You should check this out first before applying. From your thread, it doesn't sound like the case but it is good to double check and not end up losing your money due to a technicality.

If you are within the same city then you should be ok.

Both, the USC and the GC holder need to submit address change forms. The USC needs to mail in the form which the GC holder can submit it online. From what I hear, a receipt letter will be sent in response to the USC's change of address request so my recommendation is to wait for that to arrive then submit the application. If the snail mail went through then the electronic one should be processed by then.

Thank You for your reply, we are litterally only moving up the hill though technically it is another town but not another district as far as Im aware.

Do you have any idea how long the snail mail will take?

Not really - we are moving soon (oh my signature is outdated) so I will be able to find out whenever we go through this process. I think 2-3 weeks is about the average.

If you are moving just up the hill then you're fine. I sent my change of address documents and N-400 Application just few days apart and it went fine. Goodluck!

Btw, We moved to another city but the same County!
