A U.S. Senate candidate accused of raping and assaulting his teenage wife was cleared Friday when all charges against him were dismissed, his attorney and Baltimore County prosecutors said.

David Dickerson, 43, of Sparks, had been charged with second-degree rape, fourth-degree sex offense and misdemeanor second-degree assault. His 19-year-old wife, Anna Dickerson, told police that he slapped her and forced her to have sex.

An investigation revealed the allegations were unsubstantiated, attorneys on both sides said. The charges were dismissed during a preliminary hearing.

"The allegations against Dr. Dickerson were fabricated by his wife for her own motives," said Craig Kadish, Dickerson's lawyer. "He's had to deal with having his picture in the newspaper and on TV as some kind of oddball who locked his wife in the house and starved her and beat her and raped her, which of course is completely untrue."

Please don't tar all women with that brush - many of us think that lying about rape or abuse is absolutely abhorent.

This is what happens when you're 43 and you marry a 19 year old.

Yeah, but doing something stupid doesn't mean illegal. I haven't checked the newspapers or heard news reports, but I bet most of the ones that ran with the charges will not say anything or bury the charges being dropped. Plus will anything be done to the wife for filing the false charges.
