Is this column racist? Is the Detroit Republican Examiner a reputable source?

I stopped by my local welfare office recently. Right next to the check-in counter was a voter registration box. Coincidence? I think not!

It is NOT racist because he didn't use the "n" word and as seen in our recent Mel Gibson's "racist" rant thread, a white guy has to drop at least one "n" bomb to be considered a racist. It's not based on content, it's based on "n" bombs.

It IS considered racist because he, admittedly criticized black people. If a white guy does that, he's racist. It doesn't matter if he's quoting facts or making things up, if they're negative in any way, it's racist.

So, it's racist but it's not racist. That means it's only racist if you're a person who sees it as racist. Or if you're in the newsmedia and need a good catchphrase.

Well it's not as if Mel made reference to the aforementioned "n!ggers" in a positive way, is it? He said:

"You look like a f . . king pig in heat and if you get raped by a pack of niggers, it will be your fault,"

There is misogyny in those words and yes... there is racism. Not merely for the use of the "N" word, but because the statement suggests that black men go around in packs (like dogs) looking for women to rape.

Obviously noone but Mel knows what is in his heart (and if he is really a racist, deep down), but when you put statements like that out there in public (as Mel has twice - if you remember his drunken tirade against jews from a couple of years back), you're going to be judged on the basis of them.

... black citizens would rather have the government give them a life, then to go out and earn it. Isn't that why over 90% of blacks support Obama? Whenever someone mentions anything negative about the black population, the title "RACIST" is attached to them. Well go ahead and brand me. Because I think the policies used at the White House benefit the black people more than the whites. I know the argument there. The blacks have had to endure centuries of injustice. I am fifty eight years old and I never exploited a black man. Why should I have to give my money to them? Let them earn their own money.

The article seems to have disappeared from the site - but I wonder if he actually clarifies what he means about blacks benefiting more than whites from Obama's policies. I suspect its just a reference to the fact that blacks are overwhelmingly the ones in poverty and therefore any attempt to address poverty in national legislature is pandering to blacks.

Of course, I can't know that without reading the full article.

I suspect its just a reference to the fact that blacks are overwhelmingly the ones in poverty and therefore any attempt to address poverty in national legislature is pandering to blacks.

Of course, I can't know that without reading the full article.
