Patients need to understand their own symptoms in order to communicate them effectively and lead the doctor to accurate diagnosis. Doctor's get a lot of flak for this, but in fairness it isn't always the doctor's fault when something is missed.

I took some pains in researching my current Dr, of course only time will tell, but when I went to see him, we talked for over 45 minutes and I did not go to see him because anything specific was wrong.. One of the things that stood out for me is that he said one of the most important things he learned was to listen to patients, if you listen, they will tell you what is wrong. Of course that is a cliche, but if you try to be accurate with your symptoms and not second guess what they might mean, then the Dr at least stands a chance to make a reasonable diagnosis - as long as he is listening and is not just passing through the room.
