Maybe so.. the tags did not actually list the materials just the law numbers it adhered to.

I just found it amusing that it has the disclaimer of Valid in Canada only...

Yeah, they probably put that disclaimer for legal reasons here in the states.

A bit off topic here, but the other day, we were on our way to some friends of ours who are expecting a baby. I suggested to my wife that we give them the baby tub since we don't use it anymore and my wife gave me a stern 'no.' She said you don't give people used baby things when it's their first child. I don't know if it's a cultural thing, a woman thing, or a mixture of both.

You know that is quite sad in a way, and a reflection on a world wide cultural phenomena, that only by providing new things as gifts can one show that one respects the person one is gifting. New is not always good or best and yet new is our standard of acceptable.

Of course, it would not show any kind of respect to gift something that looked dirty, broken or shoddy but I think that's something different again.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

You would not believe the battles I have had on that very issue!!

Oh.. wait, your wife is also from the Philippines... so yes you would.

I always want to head down to the 2nd hand store for most of the baby clothes as she will out grow everything in a matter of weeks.

Major battle there! NEW clothes for the baby were mandated!!

Must be a cultural... :)

I agree, new is not always best. Most likely this custom got started to show respect, both to the giver and the receiver.

Such is life I guess...

And it's kind of a derivative of culture because I'm almost certain that my mother-in-law probably bathed all her kids in the kitchen sink or some other make-shift tub. The fact that my wife had grown up without a lot of new things along with what seems like a cultural affection for Western materialism, she tends to have a knee-jerk reaction over material things.

IMO, Western materialism was pimped and sold to Third World countries as a true measure of success.

Yup!!! Kitchen sink here for sure!!

Also no bassinet, just push the socks and underwear aside and the baby sleeps in the drawer.

Of course, neither of those oprions was allowed.... :)

I don't know that it was 'pimped' as much as emulated. If the most successful and rich countries in the world have a culture of 'new is best' (and effectively one of the reasons why the US is rich and successful is capitalism although one can now see that there are ugly flaws in a cynical manipulation of people to simply want more, want new and build in redundancy) why should we not expect those who want to be part of the success and richness also want that self same capitalism?
