He's right to an extent, but that extent doesn't travel very far.

- Some are pacified with the benefits for now.

- Some people looking for work won't look for work outside of their expertise

- Some people refuse to take jobs under a certain salary

- Some people refuse to put forth much effort outside of their living area

- Some companies refuse to hire people withuot specific degrees (and are wondering why they can't hire anyone)

- Some companies wants years of experience and refuse to train new eployees

- Some companies won't hire anyone who's 'over-experienced'

- Some people legitimately cannot find work

There are several factors when it comes to the employment market today and companies and people are to blame equally for different situations...

People need to stop being so damn stubborn, as do companies and it would solve so many problems...

- Some are pacified with the benefits for now.

I am sure some are, although I will freely admit that this is a mindset I can not fathom. UI benefits are paltry. Why would anyone be "pacified" by a significantly lower income?

- Some people looking for work won't look for work outside of their expertise

- Some people refuse to take jobs under a certain salary

The official advice on the NJ UI website is to look within your area of expertise when newly unemployed and as time passes, to broaden your search beyond your area of expertise (and beyond your preferred geographic area and below your preferred salary). I do know a few people who don't take this advice. It's a shame.

- Some companies refuse to hire people withuot specific degrees (and are wondering why they can't hire anyone)

My employer has lately been interviewing for the same position for months at a time. The reality is that it isn't because there's a shortage of people with degrees or experience in the NYC metro area (there is not) but because when they get dozens of resumes that clearly meet all the requirements (in addition to hundreds that do not) in the middle of a soft labor market, HR begins to play serious hardball in salary negotiations. And this leads us back to one of your earlier points. But if you asked a senior exec (as I have) why we keep interviewing for the same position for months, they will tell you it's because there aren't qualified people available. It's a load of ####### (today).

- Some companies wants years of experience and refuse to train new eployees

This is true. New employees cost a lot of money and few want to take on the expense.

- Some companies won't hire anyone who's 'over-experienced'

Insecure bosses.

- Some people legitimately cannot find work

Tom Delay just told me to tell you you're a rat commie #######.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.
