So which country would you be able to pass a similar lawsuit in?

You really got me with that logical and educated response. Yeah that must be why so many from first world countries migrate there. By the way, it's the contrary actually. Go to Europe or Asia and say I am a Yank from LA and gauge their response.

I would not suggest doing that...lately

Especially now that we screw up the entire world with the FINANCIAL GREED......

unless they are willing to buy some of our bonds....

There is no defense for spying on people via webcam without their knowledge or consent. If that is indeed what happened there is no justification for it and civil damages are entirely justified.

There are sufficient monitoring programs out there that can detect internet activity, downloads, and progam usage to monitor the computers for imporper usage. Why this school utilized webcameras is beyond me. It seems like a giant flaw in the security software they used, and very poor judgement by the administrators who used the webcams. I hate seeing monstrous judgements, but this is a fairly significant breach of privacy.

BY, you're the retarded one in this thread. You fail to address the topic at hand. You going to post an educated response that address the subject matter or continue to spout off your usual #######? The fact of the matter is, this case is in the U.S., not australia, so all your little insults and anecdotes about australia and europe mean nothing.

I never said anything about being able to pass off any lawsuit like this in another country. I'm not so delusional that I would try to transpose another country's legal system onto the problems of the U.S.. That is just imbecilic, but you continue on with that line of reasoning BY as it seems to make you feel better about yourself.

The point about using Australia, Europe and pretty much the rest of the civilized first world (including Canada) are to illustrate that such lawsuits are ridiculous. Furthermore, suing an already struggling American school system blind, does absolutely nothing to improve the education of the other students. What it does is allows one or two families to score a ridiculous sum of money, for an honest mistake.

If you want to ignore the reality, that is your prerogative. If you want to discuss the desperately needed tort reform required to bring the United States into the 21st century and into the civilized first world, I am here to discuss.

The examples that you've stated are immaterial to the topic at hand. Yes, someone getting 50 million for spilling coffee on themselves is inane. But this case is about civil liberties and privacy, which is completely different. Lets do try to stay on topic. You can compare the U.S. system all you want, but you ignore the basic facts here. I am here to discuss the topic in the OP, not tort reform. I'd be happy to indulge you on that in a topic that was so titled, but alas, this one is not, so lets get back to privacy and civil liberties.
