On the other hand, once executed, the wrong done to a wrongfully convicted person cannot be reversed. And there are plenty of stories out there of folks wrongfully convicted and put on death row. But hey, a bit of collateral damage is to be expected, yes?

I'm still waiting to see this long list of innocent people that were killed by the state.

If the remote possibility of killing an innocent person is stopping us, why even lock them up, you can never give people those years back nor make up for the inhumane things they suffered in prison.

So the mere fact that a death penalty exists on the books isn't sufficient deterrent, there has to actually be an execution every month or else the bad guys forget?

Just imagine if there were 10 a month.

That's not an argument for the death penalty but an argument against releasing those that shouldn't be released.

Who's paying for all this?

For the death penalty? The taxpayers are paying for it. It's way cheaper to lock 'em up for good.

In Texas, a death penalty case costs taxpayers an average of $2.3 million, about three times the cost of imprisoning someone in a single cell at the highest security level for 40 years.

I would like to see how that figure is calculated do you know who claims it is that much?

We pay for the Convicts legal fees including experts witness's most everyone else is already on the state payroll.
