My ROC Nightmare

You just file your N 400 and wait. Often, people have had their I 751s approved on the same day as their naturalization interview. It sort of 'forces it to the surface', if that makes sense.

Called for my case which was 6mos since mailing on December 5th. Response was we give you an extention for a year because it can take up to a year to proces it.

I am bracing fro the worst. If someone who jumped straight into naturalization can tell us how it worked.

My six months is approaching in 2 weeks. I was always reluctant in calling the 'misinformation' line, but now i don't think i will bother calling at all. I was planning on filing for citizenship as soon as i'm eligible ( June 2009) . My case is pretty straightforwardi think we gave good evidence afterall we have two children from this marriage and a mortgage as well as all the other joint assets. So thought it would of been a perfect case for a quick approval. Who knows how they work over-there. Thats one of the frustrations is that we can only speculate, as they are not forthcoming in sharing information and how they process applications ( such as why are some months ahead of others). If they made it more clearer and better answer our questions people wouldn't get so frustrated. I just tell myself why bother waiting around for an approval as my status still remains the same and by not having a new card is having no impact on me at the moment. During the N400 they will either approve the 1752 before or during the interview. it's just frustrating as the cost of filing the 1751 was ridiculous and it seems a waste a money especially if you file for N400; they should make the application as a joint one or something.... So for those that are still waiting, just look ahead to applying for citizenship, at least the processing times for that are quicker:)) goodluck folks.

Definitely shouldn't be joint: for various reasons, some people divorce after I-751, some people divorce during it, some people are not allowed to have dual citizenship. I am sure there can be more reasons.

Most probably they either didn't get good prints and there is also the possibility that they lost your information. There might be more reasons that I can't think of right now....

Hi Roosterwife and Everyone,

Lol..I can definitely understand your frustration here, in waiting for your I-751 to be approved (wow, 12 months is certainly a long time to wait!), as "I've been there, done that", with this stage of the immigration game....

For my I-751 case, it took 10 months for it to be approved (which is far more than the 6 months of service expectations)

And this was after 4 expedites/inquiries and a passport stamp, including 2 inquiries that involved getting my congressman involved....

Lol..I'd still be waiting now, if they didn't intervene!

Oh and to add insult to injury, I was pregnant at the time..

And it was quicker for the baby to arrive in 9 months than it was to get that green card in 10 months!....

Overall, I ended up having the 10yr card for only 5 months, despite having to wait 10 months for it!

Still makes my blood boil too...(even though I don't have my card anymore since they took that away and I'm a US Citizen...lol...)

(See my vj timeline for more information and my detailed story.....)

If I were you, I would make an infopass with the USCIS to further inquire about your case. If that doesn't work, my suggestion is to take your case up to your local senator/congressman/ombudsman to get your case further investigated and eventually approved. Political influence does help here..lol....

As well, if you are able to file for the N-400/US Citizenship, when you meet all those requirements, by all means, go for it! This will "force" your I-751 to be approved so that your N-400 can be approved too.

I agree, those who get approved quickly and without incident at this I-751 stage of the game are lucky. But who knows, maybe you'll have better luck in the N-400 stage, to make up for the delays and problems you had with the I-751. Lol..I know it did for me, as I got US Citizenship very quickly in 2 months (average wait is 4-6 months). Guess that made up for the I-751 delays and problems for me, and maybe for you too if your citizenship is approved quickly and get lucky there.

Don't give up! There is hope.....

Hope this helps. Good luck with the rest of your journey too.

Ant (been there, done that....blood still boils...)

You can read my timeline for the all the details so far, but here's the latest.

On November 29 I called customer service to find out the status of my case, which has been pending since December 2008. I was transferred to an IO, who looked up my case, said she couldn't see what the hold up was, and that I would hear something back within 30 days.

Today I received a letter telling me to make an appointment at my field office to find out the status of my case. What on earth??????? Why couldn't they just tell me the status in the letter????

So I called the customer service line, spoke again to an IO, who looked up my case and said that as far as he could see, it looks as if I'm going to be called for an interview!! WHAAAAATT??

After almost a year, during which the USCIS has apparently done NOTHING on my case, and just as I'm about to apply for citizenship (next week), they want to call me for an interview??!!!

I cannot begin to tell you how frustrated and angry this makes me. I see people on this forum being approved left right and center after just a few months, and this entire process has been a nightmare for me. I have made an Infopass appointment for tomorrow morning, but I swear, regardless of waht they tell me I'm going to submit my application for citizenship next week. I'm not going to jump through hoops for the I-751 at this late stage only to have to do it all over again in a few weeks (hopefully) for the N400.

Count yourself lucky if you case is approved in a timely fashion and without incident. That has certainly not been my experience and it makes my blood boil.
