Hello all again. I just emailed the DCF. I wanted to find out for us.If our papers we have already got sent to us and filled out.We sent the ones back we were asked to.If they are going to let us got through the process the old way. Seeings we are caught in the middle of this change over.We started our process back in April.I will let you all know what they say. When I get the email back. They say it can take up to five days to get back with me. Wish me all the luck that they let us do it the old way.(We get everything done in one day)

You emailed the Sydney Consulate? It will be very interesting to hear what they will let you do since you were kind of caught between the old and new policies in Australia. Good luck

Hi NCBABE and sadie33138,

What's this changeover you're referring to? Is Australia changing its DCF policy? My fiancée just e-mailed them requesting a packet 3 to get our case opened and they replied that they don't send out packet 3's now until the I-130 has been filed. I'm trying to get clarification, but if anyone knows more or has had recent experience attempting the DCF route in Australia, please let me know. Thanks!

Hiya. Yes Australia has changed its procedures.

Read the new instructions on filing the I-130, etc. from their website here:

http://sydney.usconsulate.gov/consular/Pet...nstructions.pdf

You can no longer do a one day walk in and file everything at the same time.

Thanks Sadie33138, yes, I exchanged several e-mails with the US Consulate in Sydney and things are quite different now, but the DCF is still doable for people like me, an American residing in the States with an Australian fiancée. We're getting married in Sydney in January and had planned to do everything beforehand the old way, but now there's nothing we can or need to do until after the wedding. Not a big problem - we can still get prepared and file everything straight away after that. I was worried at first that Australia no longer accepted the DCF process; I breathed a big sigh of relief. The Consulate was very helpful.

Oh yes, they still do DCF (as do most Consulates) and it is still a very easy & quick process there. The big change is not being able to do everything in one day and having to file the I-130 according to which Consulate has jurisdiction over where your Oz fiance lives. If you have everything ready when you file the I-130 you will be in an excellent position to get the visa in a couple of weeks. Maybe less if you tell the OZ Consulate what your timeline is, they may let you shortcut some. Your Oz fiance can get the police certicate in advance too and that will save you time. The main thing is to have all the supporting documents

that are required for the I-130, DS-230 & I-864.
