Timing before filing DCF

Hi Guys (Cross Posting from 'IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedures' forum)

Quick background:

Wife is the USC, Husband is the UKC. We have been together 4 years and married for nearly 7 months. The wife and I will be filing DCF from a third country, Gibraltar, at the London US Embassy.

We are planning on filing DCF in a couple of weeks, once the wife has been a legal resident of Gibraltar for 6 months.

Our question:

Will it be an issue to file DCF AS SOON as the wife has been resident for 6 months in Gibraltar? Is this timing of exactly 6 months looked at negatively by the US Embassy? Should we wait a few more months before we file at the Embassy?

Many thanks for all help in this stressful process :-)

UK Citizen and American Citizen

my husband and I are living in Gibraltar,

which is a UK overseas territory. I am a US

Citizen, he is British. we married Feb. 13th 2009.

Trying to speed up the process and get everything ready.

thanks for any info...

I would file as soon as you're eligible. In my experience with my own DCF, as long as your paperwork is in order you shouldn't have any issues. Although everyone's particular situation may differ, if you're well-prepared to answer any questions USCIS has and have all appropriate information you should be fine. I used the guides found on this site, and information gleaned from other member postings, to prepare my I-130 and I didn't have too much of a problem. My petition was approved in eight weeks.

Good luck!

Hi Maadam2004,

Thanks for the reply.

We have been preparing for the last few months to get our 'ducks in line'. This site has been invaluable to us, without it we would been completly lost in this process.

I'm sure you've already read this, but this post seems to have become the definitive thread for London DCF.

Click on the "print" option and it will give you about 53 pages worth of other people's experiences and is really quite helpful.

Nope, not at all. I contacted the embassy in Denmark several months before I was eligible and they gave me an appointment to file exactly six months to the day :)

Thats good to hear, hopefully it will be like that for us.
