I am hoping someone can help me, I moved to the States just over a year ago with my daughter. I applied for my adjustment of status but not at the same time as my daughter. A couple of weeks after mine, I applied for my daughter's adjustment of status and didn't hear from them. After many calls to immigration and visits to Homeland Security in Pittsburgh I was informed to wait a couple more weeks and if I didn't hear from immigration to send in a replacement package for my daughter. That I should put a Stop payment on the check I sent and reissue a new one. So, two weeks later I sent a replacement package along with a new check.

The problem I have now is that they originally found the first package, attempted to process the check to find out it was cancelled, stop processing her package and notified me that I still owe the money on it. They did process the second package and cashed the check on that one.

My daughter has returned to canada, as she didn't like it here in the States and is living with her Dad. So, her replacement package was cancelled as well.

Homeland Security still believes I have to pay for both packages if though they didn't have to process anything, and the fact that someone from immigration told me to do a replacement on the package.

Not sure what I can do about it, but the whole process seems really crazy.

Can anyone out there give me some advice.......??????????

Thanks Leeanne

Are they trying to collect on the first check? (If so, you should be able to call them to explain the situation.)

The matter of the second check is a learning experience - presumably they cashed the check. Nothing you can do about this.
